Left AC, on to Cape May

The Navigator | July 28, 2015 | COMMENTS:Comments Closed

We had a pleasant stay in Atlantic City for a few days.  Our friends Ron and Kathy (S/V Stormy Petrel), and Tom and Dotty (Lucky Charm) drove down from Cedar Creek, and met up with Frank & Elizabeth (S/V Island Breeze), Kelley and I.  Dotty was the big winner for the evening.

Today we left around 6:45am on our way to Cape May for a few days.  What little wind there is, it’s on our nose (of course), but at least the ocean is nice and flat today.  As I post this we have dolphins frolicking around us and Island Breeze.  It looks like the chance for thunderstorms has dissipated since we checked last evening, so the trip should be quiet (except for the engine, of course).  We expect to arrive in Cape May sometime between 4 and 5pm.

On our way to AC!

The Navigator | July 26, 2015 | COMMENTS:Comments Closed

Kelley and I decided to stay in Barnegat Bay yesterday and day sail, rather than anchor at Myers Hole to stage the inlet run and ocean passage. It was a geogeous day, perfect winds 10 knots from the northeast, 82 degrees and pleasant.

The downside to doing this was that in order to hit the currents right and get to Atlantic City at a reasonable time, we had to leave the marina at o’dark:30, 4:30am to be more precise.  The other downside is the winds are from the southwest, and we need to go southwest!

As I type this, we are off of Long Beach Island, wind and seas on our nose, motoring. If we beat back and forth I am not sure we would make it it AC before some weather comes through this evening, so we will continue to motor and hope the wind improves.

Due to work circumstances we were not able to go on our multi-week cruise we had planned to Block Island, Newport, Bristol, Marthas Vineyard, Nantucket, Cuttyhunk and the rest of the Elizabeth Islands, eventually working our way back town LI sound and to NJ.
We are still able to do a weeker on the shore with our friends, going to AC and Cape May, and are thrilled to be going!  Stay tuned…
